Hi, I'm Jon Stansfield, and I'm a district ranger for the United States Forest Service. I'm proud to be a district ranger and fill the boots of what, a position that has a long legacy in the US Forest Service. A district ranger is a leader within the Forest Service and local communities that's responsible for the protection and conservation of natural resources. While providing the goods and services that result from the multiple uses of National Forest system land. I like being a district ranger because it allows me to be involved in all the aspects of national forest management. Anywhere from wildland fire to wildlife habitat management, recreation, and timber management. I enjoy being a district ranger because I like leading people, and I like building safe, inclusive, and multi-faceted teams, conduct internal and external relationships, embrace change, and push through adversity as we manage public lands. A typical day as a district ranger for me begins in the morning, making rounds around the district, staying engaged with my staff and my employees, a lot of times in the afternoon, I'll end up meeting with elected officials, members of the public that are interested in the management of the ranger district and our interagency partners. So why do I love my job? For me, I sum it up in one word, and that's pride. As a district ranger, I'm proud to represent the US Forest Service and the work that my employees do in managing public lands for current and future generations.
