Naniarchar (Bengali: নানিয়াচর) is an Upazila of Rangamati District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh.[1]

Geography

Naniarchar is located at 22°51′30″N 92°07′00″E / 22.8583°N 92.1167°E / 22.8583; 92.1167. It has 9,481 units of household and total area 393.67 km2 (152.00 sq mi).

As of the 2011 Bangladeshi census, Naniarchar upazila had 9,481 households and a population of 43,616. 10,324 (23.67%) were under 10 years of age. Naniarchar had an average literacy rate of 47.7%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 938 females per 1000 males. 6,192 (14.20%) of the population lived in urban areas.[2] The ethnic population was 36290 (83.20%), of which Chakma were 35,314 and Marma 854.[3]

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Naniarchar has a population of 34561. Males constitute 52.67% of the population, and females 47.33%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 16882. Naniarchar has an average literacy rate of 33.9% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.[4]

Administration

Naniarchar Upazila is divided into four union parishads: Burighat, Ghilachhari, Naniarchar, and Sabekkhong. The union parishads are subdivided into 20 mauzas and 158 villages.[5]
