Bandarban Sadar (Bengali: বান্দরবন সদর) is an upazila of Bandarban District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh.[1]

Geography

Bandarban Sadar is located at 22°14′00″N 92°11′30″E / 22.2333°N 92.1917°E / 22.2333; 92.1917. It has a total area of 501.98 km2.

As of the 2011 Bangladeshi census, Bandarban Sadar upazila had 18,934 households and a population of 88,282. 20,487 (23.22%) were under 10 years of age. Bandarban Sadar had an average literacy rate of 49.28%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 851 females per 1000 males. 41,434 (46.93%) of the population lived in urban areas.[2] The ethnic population was 39,812 (45.10%), of which Marma were 22,978, Mru 5,829 and Tripura 1,423.[3]

Administration

Bandarban Sadar Upazila is divided into Bandarban Municipality and five union parishads: Bandarban, Kuhalong, Rajbila, Suwalak, and Tankabati. The union parishads are subdivided into 16 mauzas and 225 villages.[2]

Bandarban Municipality is subdivided into 9 wards and 69 mahallas.[2]
