Career

He presented his first radio show in 2001 aged 16 working on the launch of Juice FM in Liverpool. From 2002 to 2006 he hosted regular shows across the Galaxy FM Network including network weekend breakfast and Sunday night show “Galaxy Anthems”. For several years he hosted the weekday drive time show on regional station Galaxy 105 across the Yorkshire region of England. During his tenure the programme was the biggest afternoon radio show in the UK outside of London. At the age of 23 he moved to XFM London where he hosted weekday afternoons and then weekends.[1] He left XFM London for the first incarnation of Virgin Radio UK on 1215AM nationally and remained on across the transition to Absolute Radio. He also presented various weekend and overnight phone in programmes on London based news-talk station LBC around this time. In December 2023 he began presenting for the new Virgin Radio UK owned by News UK Broadcasting. He joined the weekend lineup and became a permanent host at Virgin Radio UK in April 2024, hosting 4-7PM weekends.

On 12 March 2007 he started work on Al Gore owned Current TV which had been on air in the US since 2005 and was the second national roll out of the brand around the world on Sky and Virgin Media. The channel launched in the UK amidst a blaze of media publicity surrounding the former US Vice president’s network. Smith was the first person to appear on the UK TV channel at launch as the presenter of Google Current and later special documentaries on LGBTQ+ issues, global drugs policy and a live daily current affairs and entertainment show called “Webmash” that aired 2009- 2010. He remained on screen regularly until mid 2010. [2][3]
