Local elections were held in Marikina on May 14, 2007, as part of the general election. The voters elected one mayor, one vice mayor, one representative per district of the city's two congressional districts, and eight councilors per district of the city's two congressional districts.

Before Elections

The city has been re-apportioned from single congressional district to two congressional districts, in accordance to Republic Act No. 9364, amending the city charter.[1] Therefore, the city should elect two congressional representatives and eight councilors from previous one representative and six councilors.[citation needed]

Vice Mayor Marion Andres was on his second term, and he ran for re-election for third term. He was challenged by Efren Angeles.[citation needed]

Former Councilor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro ran independently as city's representative for newly created first district.[citation needed]
