Local elections are scheduled to be held in Taguig on May 12, 2025, as part of the 2025 Philippine general election. The electorate will elect a mayor, a vice mayor, sixteen members of the Taguig City Council, and two district representatives to the House of Representatives of the Philippines. The officials elected in the election will assume their respective offices on June 30, 2025, for a three-year-long term.

This will be the first general election in which the Embo barangays are part of Taguig.

The local race for Taguig has been sensationalized by the media outlets following the recent Supreme Court decision that transfers the jurisdiction of ten Embo barangays from Makati to Taguig. Many political pundits, academicians, and journalists have been tackling the major role and implications that the Embo barangays could bring in the 2025 elections in Taguig.[1]

In addition, some issues of the repportionment of the districts of Makati and Taguig are still pending to be resolved following the Supreme Court ruling with Taguig possibly gaining additional one congressional seat and eight city council seats to accommodate the new Taguig residents from the Embo barangays that could be up for grabs and filled in 2025.[2]

In August 2023, the COMELEC has issued a memorandum transferring the jurisdiction of Embo barangays from COMELEC Makati to COMELEC Taguig.[3] For the first time, the residents of the Embo barangays have voted in Taguig during the 2023 Philippine barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.[4]

Mayoral election

The incumbent mayor is Lani Cayetano, who has served since 2022 after being elected with 75.77% of the vote. Cayetano is eligible for reelection to a second term. The election has stirred much speculation, most especially in the Embo barangays which gained momentum in national media outlets about the possible clash or dynastic invasion of the Binay family to the Cayetano family by fielding or endorsing a Binay-backed candidate or by running themselves in Taguig.[5]
