Elham Modarresi (Persian: الهام مدرسی; born December 28, 1990 in Sanandaj) is an Iranian painter and political prisoner.[1][2] She was one of the activists of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" during the Mahsa Amini protests, who was arrested in her house by the agents of the Islamic Republic.[3][4]

Arrest

Modarresi was arrested on November 2, 2022 by the Islamic Republic of Iran's security agents raiding her house and was transferred to Kechoui prison in Karaj.[5] Modarresi claimed she was subjected to torture to obtain a forced confession and was denied medical treatment for a genetic liver disorder.[6][7][8] Modarresi was released in January 2023.[9]

Political sponsorship

Nathalie Goulet, a member of the French Senate, took on political sponsorship of Modarresi on December 19, 2022.[10] Caroline Lucas, a member of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, took on political sponsorship or Modarresi and Mohammad Ghobadlou'.[11]
