Megasphaera es un género de bacterias Firmicutes clasificadas dentro de la clase Negativicutes.[1]​[2]​

Su clasificación ha sido reexaminada,[3]​ ya que al parecer este género es un miembro de Clostridia.

Filogenia

La taxonomía aceptada actualmente se basa en el Listado de nombres procariotas con posición en nomenclatura (LPSN) y el Centro Nacional para la Información Biotecnológica (NCBI) y la filogenia se basa en los ARN ribosomal 16S de la edición 111 del The All-Species Living Tree Project (LTP).[4]​[5]​
