Joseph Levering (20 de julio de 1874 – 27 de agosto de 1943[1]) fue un director, actor y guionista cinematográfico de nacionalidad estadounidense, activo principalmente en la época del cine mudo.
Biografía
Su nombre completo era Joseph Montgomery Levering, y nació en Columbus, Indiana. Empezó a trabajar en el cine como actor en 1911, en un cortometraje producido por Edison Company, debutando como director en 1914, rodando su primer film en colaboración con Willard Louis para Lubin Manufacturing Company. Levering también tuvo la oportunidad de trabajar con Cecil B. DeMille.
Su único film sonoro como intérprete, y el último en el que actuó, fue Sporting Chance, de Albert Herman. Al no superar la transición al cine sonoro como actor, Levering se centró a partir de entonces en la dirección y en la escritura de guiones. En total, a lo largo de su carrera, que finalizó en 1939, dirigió más de treinta películas, actuó en veinticinco, la gran mayoría cortometrajes, y participó en cinco como guionista.
Joseph Levering falleció en Kansas City, Misuri, en 1943.
