Taxonomía

El género fue descrito por Christiaan Hendrik Persoon y publicado en Botanische Jahrbücher für Systematik, Pflanzengeschichte und Pflanzengeographie 43: 216. 1909.[2]​ La especie tipo es: Afrostyrax kamerunensis Perkins & Gilg
