Villarén de Valdivia is a town in the province of Palencia (Castilla y León, Spain) that belongs to the municipality of Pomar de Valdivia.

History

From the Middle Ages to the c. 18th century, this town was integrated into the Merindad Menor de Aguilar de Campoo.[3] Villarén had in the past (c. 1850) its own town hall, thus, with the fall of the Ancient Regime the town became constitutional municipality[4] which in the CE 1842 census had 10 households and 52 residents, to later [5] expand its term with the incorporation of Pomar de Valdivia, Báscones de Valdivia, Cezura, Helecha de Valdivia, Lastrilla, Porquera de los Infantes, Quintanilla de las Torres, Rebolledo de la Inera, Respenda de Aguilar, Revilla de Pomar, Villaescusa de las Torres and Villallano. At the end of the c. 19th century this municipality changed its name, becoming Pomar de Valdivia, between the censuses of CE 1877 and 1887, then having 412 homes and 1754 inhabitants.
