Who doesn’t love games that offer vehicle destruction to the nth degree? Rushing into an area surrounded by bad guys, only to blow them all up and see their destroyed remains as you speed away. That’s what you can expect, and more, when you play Renegade Ops. An evil terrorist going by the single name of Inferno has declared war on the world and is ready to destroy anyone who stands in his way. When formal negotiations fail, General Bryant decides to take matters into his own hands and take the fight to Inferno. You select one of the members of team to take into combat, either Armand, Diz, Roxy, or Gunner. Each plays a little differently and comes with their own special weapon. Diz has an EMP that will disable enemies in the area, while Gunner has a heavy gun for extra attack power, and Roxy is capable of calling an airstrike for maximum damage. After you select you are quickly thrown into the combat. The game is played from a top down perspective and controls with the two analog sticks. The controls work perfectly, allowing you to move quickly and precisely through the action. The levels are open and fairly large. You will be given an initial objective, but along the way side-missions will come up, mostly involving you going to a different area and either blowing something up, rescuing a hostage, or blowing something up and then rescuing a hostage. The areas are crawling with thousands of Inferno’s soldiers, and you will want to destroy all of them because each kill rewards you with experience that you can use to upgrade your vehicle, and because it is so much fun to see them go boom. The upgrades range from increasing your vehicles defenses to your attack strength and even improving your characters special. But you can’t equip all of them. Before each mission you have to select what upgrades you want and specialize your vehicle, allowing for multiple ways to play through the nine missions. Each of the different levels look great too, with tropical settings to destroyed cities. You will appreciate the beautiful locals as you attempt to blow up everything around them. The action is fast and furious, and even more so when played with a friend, either 2 player split screen or up to four online. Each mission may not set itself apart from another too much, but Renegade Ops does exactly what it sets out to do, and that is provide you with tight controlling vehicle destruction.

Reception

The game currently holds an 81 and 80 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on Metacritic, respectively, indicating generally positive reviews.[8][7]

As of 2011, the game sold over 25,000 copies on Xbox Live Arcade.[9]
