Nicolas Maupas (born 29 October 1998) is an Italian-French actor. He is best known for playing Filippo Ferrari in the Italian drama television series The Sea Beyond (2020–2023) and Simone Balestra in Un professore (2021–present).

Biography

Nicolas Maupas was born in Milan to a French father and a Sicilian mother;[1] his father is a graphic designer and his mother is a journalist. He grew up in Magenta, a small town in the Milan's province, approaching acting from an early age partly thanks to his mother's passion for art-house films.[2] He graduated from Magenta's classical high school and went on to study acting and dubbing at the 09 Academy in Milan, making a name for himself for talent. To follow his dream to become an actor, he moved to Rome and for a period of his life worked as a waiter, and he said this experience was very formative.[3]

I worked in a restaurant occasionally, and the owners were two mentors to me. The restaurant became a theater workshop and even just relating to the customers then really came in handy.

Between 2020 and 2023 he is one of the main characters in the series The Sea Beyond, in which he plays Filippo Ferrari.[4][5] In 2022 he received the "Next Generation award" at the Venice Film Festival as best revelation actor just because of The Sea Beyond.[6] In 2021 he plays the lead roles in the series Nudes and Un professore.[7][8][9][10] In the latter, he plays Simone, son of Dante Balestra, played by Alessandro Gassmann. In 2022, he played Hans in the film Under the Amalfi Sun.[11][12] In the same year, he starred in the series Sopravvissuti and I Hate Christmas,[13][14][15] which he also takes part in for the second season in late 2023. In the fall of 2023 he is seen playing Jean Liberati, one of the superheroes in the series Noi siamo leggenda, airing on Rai 2, with the power of invulnerability, and simultaneously on Rai 1 for the second season of Un professore.

In 2024 he worked on the miniseries Marconi, also produced by Rai, playing the young Guglielmo Marconi.
