Menghu Islet (Chinese: 猛虎嶼; pinyin: Měnghǔ Yǔ; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: bíng-hóo-sū)[2][3] (Tiger Island[4]) is an islet located southwest of Lesser Kinmen (Lieyu) in Lieyu Township, Kinmen County (Quemoy), Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan).[5] The islet was originally named Hu-tzu Hsü[6][7] (Hu-tzu Hsu[8]) (虎仔嶼[9]: 37 [10]).
History
In 1965, the island was given its present name.[9]: 37
In 2006, a Chinese fishing ship carrying 198 Chinese box turtles for illicit sale in Fujian was caught in the waters adjacent to Menghu Islet.[11]
On November 3, 2017, a fishing ship with five crew members from Longhai City, Zhangzhou, Fujian, China was caught in the waters adjacent to Menghu Islet.[12]
On July 23, 2019, Ho Cheng (賀政), the new leader of the ROC Army Kinmen Defense Command (陸軍金門防衛指揮部), visited the soldiers on Shi Islet and Menghu Islet.[13][14]
After 10 PM on August 14, 2019, two members of the Kinmen branch of the Coast Guard Administration (Taiwan) were severely injured when they jumped from their ship onto a fishing ship from Mainland China which had been caught fishing in the waters around Menghu Islet.[15][16]
Geography
Menghu Islet is 3.7 km (2.3 mi) southwest of Lesser Kinmen (Lieyu).[17]

The OPS PLAN indicated that the "Offshore Islands" referred to in the paragraphs just quoted included six islands in the Quemoy group: Big Quemoy, Little Quemoy, Ta-tan, Ehr-tan, Hu-tzu Hsu and Tung-ting-hsu and seven islands in the Matsu chain.

猛虎嶼就位在金門縣烈嶼鄉的西南邊3.7公里處，島嶼面積僅有0.025平方公里，不過海拔高度卻有50公尺，從碼頭到營部爬樓梯要214階，地勢易守難攻，不過官兵要運補時需要搬米、瓦斯以及罐頭甚至是油漆桶時都相當辛苦。
