Mahmudabad (Persian: محموداباد)[a] is a village in, and the capital of, Mahmudabad Rural District of Sivan District, Ilam County, Ilam province, Iran.[4] The village is populated by Kurds.[5]

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 854 in 171 households, when it was in the Mishkhas Rural District of the Central District.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 887 people in 225 households.[7] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 789 people in 217 households,[2] by which time the rural district had been separated from the district in the establishment of the new Sivan District.[8]

The rural district was established in 2023, with Mahmudabad as its capital.[4]
