Summary

Description
Wychwood School for Girls. These two houses facing Banbury Road, plus two more round the corner in Bardwell Road, constitute an independent school for middle-class gals that originated in 1897 and acquired this site in 1918. The school was named after the forest (see 43762) surrounding the home of one of the lady founders, and the emphasis was, and is, on democratic self-government complete with a school council. In 1960 the two buildings were joined together in an unsightly fashion that was once used as an illustration of architectural faux-pas.
