An illustration of one side of the seal of Walter fitz Alan. The seal was appended to a charter by Walter, of the lands of Mauchline, in Kyle, to the Abbey of Melrose; circa 1170 (see source below, page 126, #769, #770).

The image has been scanned from Descriptive catalogue of impressions from ancient Scottish seals, royal, baronial ecclesiastical, and municipal, embracing a period from a.d. 1094 to the commonwealth, plate 3, figure 1, by Henry Laing, published in 1850. This book was published in Edinburgh, Scotland. The illustration is not credited.
