Edison (formerly, Wade)[3] is an unincorporated community in the Tehachapi mountains of Kern County, California.[1] It is located 7.5 miles (12 km) east-southeast of downtown Bakersfield,[3] at an elevation of 568 feet (173 m).[1]
In 1902, the Edison Electric Company built a substation on the site.[3] The Southern Pacific Railroad arrived at Wade in 1903, and changed the name to Edison.[3] In 1928 oil was found nearby, and the Edison Oil Field gradually developed, peaking in the 1950s. The community is within the administrative boundaries of the oilfield, and active wells surround the town.[4][5]
The Edison post office opened in 1903, closed in 1929, and re-opened in 1946.[3]

In times like this, we can all use some help. You want to save energy, money and the environment. But buying new appliances to replace your older, less efficient ones can be expensive. Welcome to Southern California Edison's Energy Savings Assistance Program. We understand how bills can pile up, making it harder and harder to afford new appliances, especially the major ones that use the most electricity. The Energy Savings Assistance Program is an opportunity for customers who meet the program’s income eligibility to replace older, outdated appliances and lights, with brand new energy efficient refrigerators, room air conditioners, central air conditioners, lights, evaporative coolers, even pool pumps, and it won't cost you a thing. In fact, it's going to save you money by replacing your old appliances with new ones at no cost to you. By meeting the program's income requirement, you automatically qualify for the CARE Program, which offers a 20% or more, discount off your electric bill each and every month. To take advantage of these FREE services and bill discount, you can contact SCE directly by calling 1-800-736-4777 or by visiting www.sce.com/esap. All you have to do is provide your address and answer a few simple questions to verify your eligibility, and SCE will refer you to a local service provider. You'll receive a letter informing you about everything you need to know concerning the Energy Savings Assistance Program. The service provider will set up an appointment for you, and a representative will come to you. All you have to do is provide proof of income eligibility before the representative begins the process of looking over your old appliances and determining what replacements you may qualify for. We'll then go over the program with you, providing helpful energy conservation tips and information about other resourceful programs. SCE will then assign an approved-installation service provider who will then remove your old appliances and replace them with new ones. We know that times are tough, and we know it can be difficult to pay your bills and even harder to afford new appliances. That's why Southern California Edison is looking to help you make ends meet. Again, at no charge to you. It’s all part of Southern California Edison's Energy Savings Assistance Program, looking to save you money by reducing your electric bill and your energy use with new energy efficient appliances--and it’s absolutely free.
