East Point is an unincorporated community in Wood County, located in the U.S. state of Texas.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, East Point had a population of 40 in 2000.

History

East Point was first settled near Stout's Creek as early as the 1870s and was named for its location on the “east point” of another settlement that was in the same location. East Point Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1893 with the help of some members from the nearby Little Hope church. The community's population was reported as 25 in the mid-1930s with a church and a business. These details remained the same until 1988. The population grew to 40 in 2000.[2]

Geography

East Point is located at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 312 and 2088, 8 mi (13 km) east of Quitman and 9 mi (14 km) south of Winnsboro in east-central Wood County.[3]

Education

East Point had a school with one teacher and 86 students in 1896. The enrollment dropped to 60 in 1905. In 1932, it had 103 White students in 10 grade levels and 20 black students in seven grade levels.[2] Today, the community is served by the Winnsboro Independent School District.
