[birdsong] It's just a really nice place to be. It's a quiet place. In the mountains of the Trans Pecos is Davis Mountains State Park. It's nestled in the most extensive mountain range in Texas. We're in the middle of the Chihuanan desert but the park elevation runs from 5,000 to 5,700 feet. [babbling creek] You can go from down along the creeks to up atop the mountains. What a gorgeous morning! We have hiking trails all over this park so if you want to get out and exercise this is the place to do it! Mountain biking, equestrian trails, hiking, backpacking or you can just kick back and relax! [birdsong] Tucked in Keesey Canyon is Indian Lodge. All 39 rooms in this pueblo style hotel have been renovated to look like they did back in 1937 when the lodge was first built. It's certainly going to give the guest a lot more of a feel of the original construction features and design features. We've got the casement windows back in, wood casement windows. Refinished wood floors, pine wood floors. They're also going to see the exposed cane and log ceilings that are actually structural. This is a place that Texans have been coming to for 50 and 60 years, one generation after another. Oh, look! That's neat. Yeah. Daniel and Meg Scott have stayed here before but not since the renovation. It still has that good rustic feel to it, the old log beams in the ceiling. but you can tell that it's been modernized and updated a little bit but it still has that good old world feel to it. [camera clicks] Wherever you lay your head, keep your eyes peeled for some west Texas wildlife. Mountain lions are sighted fairly often. We're one of the only places in Texas where you can go and view the Montezuma quail. We have unique animals. Birds come through all the time. But probably the ones people remember the most are the javelina and mule deer that they're able to see in the campground areas. As for the trails... Expect to be challenged. That's it, take it easy... Our equestrian trail actually starts out in one of the low points in the park about 4900 feet. It's easy to have a 6, 8 mile ride going up on top of mountains with some great views off the horse. The mountain bike trails, you literally are on mountains here. The incline can be pretty severe but it's doable. A lot of people do it. A lot of people enjoy it. They are challenging. Whether you're here for the trails or the tranquility, Davis Mountains is sure to sooth the soul.
