Severance is a Statutory Town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 7,683 at the 2020 census.[5] The town is located on the Colorado Eastern Plains, northwest of Greeley, a crossroads of county roads.

A post office in Severance has been in operation since 1894.[8] The community was named after David Severance, a pioneer settler.[9]

Rocky Mountain oysters, a regional dish, is served at Bruce's Bar, a local landmark.[10]

Severance is also the home of KRKA radio, an Air 1 station with a far-reaching signal which can be heard as far away as Denver.

In October 2023, a shooting and subsequent murder-suicide left two dead.[11]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.1 square miles (5.4 km2), of which, 2 square miles (5.2 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it (3.27%) is water.

Governance

The town previously had a ban on snowball fights that was repealed in 2018 after 9-year old advocated for the repeal.[15]
