History

At Google I/O 2019, Google announced a web version of Google Podcasts for iOS, Android, and Windows.[8] The iOS version launched in March 2020.[9][10] In November 2019, the app received a redesign using Google Material Theme.[11] On May 12, 2020, Google announced that users could transfer their podcast subscriptions and history to Google Podcasts from Google Play Music.[12]

In February 2023, Google podcast executives Kai Chuk and Steve McClendon announced that podcasts would be added to YouTube Music in the near future.[13] In September, Google confirmed that the Google Podcasts app would be discontinued in 2024 in favor of YouTube Music.[14][15][16] The app stopped functioning in the US on April 2, 2024, but still permits users to export their subscriptions until July 30, 2024.[6][7]

The app will continue to function outside the US until June 24, 2024.[7]
