Fue escrita por Albert Hammond y Carole Bayer Sager. La canción fue interpretada por primera vez por Hammond en su álbum de 1976 When I Need You. El mismo Hammond grabaría una versión en español llamada "Si me amaras".

Producida por Richard Perry, la versión de Leo Sayer llegó al puesto número uno de la lista de sencillos del Reino Unido por dos semanas en febrero de 1977 después de que tres de sus anteriores sencillos llegaran al puesto número dos. También llegó al primer puesto del Billboard Hot 100 por una sola semana en mayo de 1977.

Céline Dion también interpretó esta canción para su álbum de 1997 Let's Talk About Love. Otras versiones corrieron a cargo de Perry Como, Rod Stewart y Luther Vandross, y en español han grabado versiones agrupaciones como Yndio («Me haces falta... Te necesito»).
