Sivapithecus indicus

De Wikipedia, la enciclopedia libre

El Sivapithecus indicus es un homínido del Mioceno con mandíbula robusta, placa simiana grande (menor que en Gorilla). Las ramas mandibulares son muy anchas y la arcada dentaria en forma de "U", alargada y estrecha. Presenta diastema residual entre los incisivos laterales y caninos, y entre caninos y PM3 (mordida en cizalla).

Con respecto al esplancnocráneo presenta gran prognatismo del clivo naso-alveolar y huesos malares anchos y alargados. Los arcos zigomáticos son abiertos y dan lugar a una gran fosa temporal (Aparato masticador desarrollado). La arcada dentaria maxilar tiene forma de "U" para su encaje con la mandíbula. Los incisivos centrales son de mayor tamaño que los laterales y presenta diastema entre incisivos laterales y caninos.
