Hip to Be Square

«Hip to Be Square» (en español: «Está de moda ser formal») es una canción de Huey Lewis and the News, escrita por Bill Gibson, Sean Hopper y Huey Lewis, y publicada en 1986 como segundo sencillo del multi-álbum de platino, Fore!.

La letra narra cómo un hombre que solía ser un rebelde se corta el pelo y sienta cabeza. Por ello, se la considera un himno de los yuppies de los años 80. En la canción se escucha cantar de fondo a los futbolistas Joe Montana y Ronnie Lott.^[1]​

American Psycho

La canción es citada en la novela American Psycho cuando su protagonista, Patrick Bateman, dice que es una obra maestra.

La canción también aparece en su adaptación de película durante una de las escenas más icónicas de la película:

"In '87, Huey released this ... Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is 'Hip to Be Square,' a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself."
