Los esfenacodontios (Sphenacodontia) son un clado que incluye a la familia Sphenacodontidae y a todos sus descendientes (incluidos los mamíferos). Surgieron durante el Carbonífero Superior (Pensilvánico). Se caracterizan por un engrosamiento del maxilar superior, visible por su superficie interna, y por tener dientes premaxilares empotrados en alvéolos profundos. Se les considera proto-terápsidos.
