English: On of the earliest-known representation of the lion and sun as a banner device. From a miniature painting, dated 826/1423, of the Šāh-nāma of Shams-al-Din Kashani. This epic is a composition on the Mongol conquest . From S. Nafīsī, Derafsh-e Iran wa Shir o Khorshid, Tehran, 1328 Sh./1949.
