The 2026 Summer Youth Olympics will be the fifth edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games, an international sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers, in a city designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Potential bids

In April 2018, the IOC President Thomas Bach met President of the Indian Olympic Association Narinder Dhruv Batra on his India trip. The two leaders discussed the future of Olympic sport in the country - particularly looking ahead to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. They also spoke about a possible candidature of India to host the Youth Olympic Games 2026 and a strong interest in the Olympic Games 2032. Later, IOC member Nita Ambani expressed a commitment for a Mumbai candidature for the Youth Olympic Games 2026, as well as a strong interest in the 2032 Summer Olympics.[1]
In April 2018, the IOC President Thomas Bach met President of the Comité Olímpico Nicaragüense Emmett Lang Salmerón. They discussed the NOC’s current situation, the success of the 2017 Central American Games held in Managua and the next editions of the Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games (YOG). The country’s desire to be a candidate for the YOG 2026 was also discussed.[2]
During 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Deputy prime minister Gen.Prawit Wongsuwan, President of National Olympic Committee of Thailand met Thomas Bach, President of International Olympic Committee discussing the possibility of bidding for the Youth Olymic Games and it might happen in 2026.[3]
In April 2018, the IOC President met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at the Government House in Bangkok. The two leaders discussed the country’s Olympic performances as well as Thailand’s desire to be a candidate for the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 and the role of sport in general in society.[1]
In October 2018, Cabinet of Thailand approved the YOG 2026 bid, and estimated income and revolving money from the games about 1,000M Baht.[4] During 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Minister of Tourism and Sports Weerasak Kowsurat and IOC member Khun Ying Patama Leeswadtrakul observed the 2018 games to adapt in 2026 and met the IOC President Thomas Bach and the BAOCYOG President and IOC member Gerardo Werthein.[5]
In January 2019, Sports Authority of Thailand visited and evaluated Chonburi about feasibility to be host the 2026 games because this province have many infrastructures such as U-Tapao International Airport and Eastern High-speed rail travelling from Bangkok to Chonburi in 30 minutes.[6][7]
