The Point Four program was introduced by President Truman back in 1949 in his inaugural speech in January 1949.
What that entailed was that the United States was willing to share its economic and agricultural knowledge with less
developed countries. That's where the whole concept of Point Four came from.
I was interested in the subject because my father was governor of the region where this university was established.
That kind of got my attention. So when I became a filmmaker, that was one of the first movies I wanted to make.
The contribution OSU made to the Ethiopian university, Haramaya, was significant. It would have been very difficult
to pull it off without OSU. OSU first came to Ethiopia in 1952 and they have sent over 330 PhD's and teachers over the
years from when the program ended in 1968. So the contribution OSU made is huge and very significant.
