Located in west-central Gabon, in the shadow of the mountain ranges at the northern edge of Chaillu massif, Waka National Park covers 1,070 square kilometers; it is difficult to access and has been little studied to date and in fact, has barely even been photographed. Their spiritual beliefs and cultural traditions continue to play an important role in the daily lives of the inhabitants of the Waka area. For the various ethnic groups, the forest is the source of food, medicines and inspiration. All of these people have a way of life that is fully integrated with nature and has permitted them to maintain the forest intact; thanks to their impressive knowledge they are often employed to help conservation professionals. In the future they may well provide expert guiding service using their science and respect for nature to allow tourists to discover this precious place.
