On 14 June 2024, a Utair Antonov An-26 flying in a charter flight from Sabetta International Airport to Utrenny Airport, Russia, crash-landed 1 km from its destination in foggy weather. The plane broke in two parts and 3 of the 41 on board were injured.[1]

Aircraft

The aircraft involved was a 44 years old Antonov An-26 registered as RA-26662.[2] The plane was substantially damaged, as it broke in two on impact.

Accident

The plane was approaching Utrenny Airport in worsening weather conditions, with strong wind and fog. The plane disappeared from radar about 3 km from the destination airport and then was found crash-landed about 1 km from it, the An-26 hit a pile of snow. The aircraft was severely damaged from the accident with the cockpit broken off from the fuselage, and severe damage to both propellers. All 41 people on board survived but 3 were injured, 2 of the injuries were the pilot and co-pilot, the rest of the passengers were evacuated to the airport terminal building.[3][4][5]

Investigation

Rosaviatsiya, the Russian Federal Agency for Air Transport opened an investigation on the accident. The Interregional Investigation Directorate for Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced that the crash involved violations of safety procedures and that criminal procedures were started.[6]
