the most important story in the news today and after the past couple weeks has to do with the student protest that are happening all throughout the united states there several legislators they're doing whatever they can to cut education funding and students are finally standing up to it and i love it have fairy rings five cuts in education funding are happening today is because of the fact that cute uh... all closely u_s_ do not pay taxes spared not only able to get away without paying their taxes u_s_ government ends up paying death the country's leading a tremendously just to give you an idea up because of the corporate loopholes tax loopholes the district of columbia missouri dot seven hundred million dollars per year baptism finally close the gap holiday if the budget the perfect market is educations in south africa in their primaries that afterwards in their opinions on it when it comes to the bank of america might we half here's bail them out with forty five billion dollars in two thousand eight and two thousand nine in two thousand nine he has a actually did not raise taxes at all in fact the u_s_ government ended up paint bad one point nine billion dollars in tax that allegations at the same time we have them governors like governor tom corbett cutting education in half ok all funding for education obfuscated dania has been cut in half this is something that really upsets accustomed slaughter and people amy u_s_ unpacked he's not a student you've not enrolled in a policy university however if you care so much about education and care so much about up preserving funding for education that he has led this movement here incapable of corporations accountable so they paid their taxes so we don't have to cut funding for education death and thanks for joining us mode so tell me a little bit about what u_s_ uncut installed elsie as doing up as you guys organized a protest tell me what that protest was tell me how you guys even came up with the idea well we sidered took a leader will be we care about the idea from you can cut him who started the uncut movement u months ago and uh... basically was kind of took there'd be no to prove to be a lead from an end and we we decided to do the keygen inside the bank of america branch and fifty chin was what incredible i'm i've been to protest in the past but this was my first experience of civil disobedience and it was for a lot of our members to and him basically what you will but we do is we we went inside the sat down and they're waiting area de la p and we just started talking about uh... what bank of america is doing to the country and you did an excellent job of purpose setting up you know that uh... the uh... specifically what the state of getting away with we also wanted to add to that bank of america uh... in two thousand nine eight figure that you mentioned they paid their investment bankers nearly four point four billion dollars in bonuses while laying off thirty five thousand of their employees came here him but it'll be back to the keygen p there were many moments that dayton words at the branch were customers stopped going out there to potted plants and then stood there and it really listen to what we're saying and and i i hope that we can try to compete you know in their brain okay so so you guys showed up us and you did this teach-in tell me how many e people showed up to do this and it tell me what the response was from bank of america okay well we had uh... about twenty five people in total show up another everybody when in fact branch we had about modesty and people inside the branch and the reston the rest of our members or outside engaging that the veterans and talking to them and bank of america's response they weren't happy and of course home at senator tumors that when the when the replied that show we're in the winter in synthetic branch for about thirty minutes and when the ah... if we find it did show up the cop him he walked around for about fifteen minutes and that we got the impression he really didn't know what to do because it was he'd never seen a teach-in before and we obviously we were putting up any kind of fight with them then we were being obnoxious mhm uh... and i think you'd realize that you are in there in part too what's happening to a lot of first responders interstate too you know what their budgets being cut utterly he eventually came over to kevin organizer instead i don't really want to do that but the bank leonard manager doesn't like you think and so i'm going to ask you deal with it so what was the response of of the bank customers that you did have the opportunity to to talk to you did it with the basing that's that debasing shocked what was their reaction uh... down in a bit more they weren't there was a lot of curiosity am i don't think you know the customers had ever seen anything like this beatty were asking questions about you know after outside of court they did we weren't really engaged in fact the bank but outside um... a lot of people were just surprise the no berkey here that bank of america didn't have to pay taxes and i think i think a lot of americans don't know that a lot of americans don't know that i think that that's the trouble with the mainstream media i think that they're under the impression that the american public will find this information to complicated to comprehend but i think that that that's absolutely untrue i think this is something that people should know about to know that two-thirds of corporations in the united states do not pay taxes eight makes me so be re-used especially when you look at what it does to our education system okay a minute name a couple things that have to do with education five cuts so congress propose oh five point seven billion dollar cuts a pell grant program which will directly target lower-income students who want higher education okay this is all because of that corporate tax loophole desire because our country is in a massive deficit because we keep giving and giving to the bankers and giving and giving to these corporations that are looking out for themselves they're not looking out for the best interest of the united states or for the citizens acute another one congress' proposal a one billion dollar cut to the head start program which will directly target low-income and poverty state stricken students congress has proposed a seven hundred million dollar cuts a title one programs or title one grounds which will directly target children and lower-income school districts so basically this is the rich getting richer low-income students hiding harder time accessing quality education that's what we're seeing in the country and americans don't know about it because the media decide that they don't want to report on the fact that two-thirds of corporations do not pay taxes in the united states so i'd love what you guys did twenty five people they show up at this branch at be obey and you start educating the public on it and people were shocked people were curious they were you know heating up this information which is a good thing you hear so after the cops kick you out of the branch what happened after that waah basically we that outside and we keep them were protesting and uh... again because continued to engage with the pestering with people walking by we got a very few dept response point carjacking by a lot of honking you know i i think that people i think you're absolutely right when he david it's ridiculous to think that people can't wrapped their brand about who wrap their brains around this issue because it common-sense you know that it did not do you think the corporation there are you know sucking the country drive centrally and uh... we need to get everyone organized and behind this issue and it's an issue that people can can definitely rally behind you know of all economic strike of different backgrounds everybody you know dust and i'm not so it's just what i what i ask you now i'd love that you the whole purpose of this teaching was to basically educate the public on what's going on with the tax loopholes however do you guys feel that you are targeting the real problem here i mean this is one be obeyed branch in philadelphia i'm i'm pretty sure the employees who work there have no idea what's going on they're probably like what we don't even know about these corporate tax loopholes so it's good that you were educating the public that was there at that very moment but to really target the core of the problem i think is more important which is holding politicians accountable four ob basically supporting these corporate tax tax loopholes so what are you guys doing if anything at all to target that problem well we actually uh... on saturday resort talked about what we wanted to do next and we work considering taking a teach-in at correct orbits office in philadelphia whitney because obviously part of it part of getting the message out is getting media attention that people can be nowhere obviously he was going on and we think that uh... it buddy staging concerted action ac corbett dot that's we might be able to get more attention that way and get our message out more people alright just in the final question for you i know that u_s_ uncut is planning a rally in washington d_c_ need beginning on april fifth th can you tell me are may fifteen tell me a little more about that event rainbow basically we are your recording which and a uh... in washington d_c_ on may fifth and what we hope to do is get americans from all you know all different organizations i mean we really want huge action to take place down in defeat we wanted we want to do a to camp out there a purported we want to you kitchen door knocking on our our elected representatives towards you know we really want to engage our politicians and and and and really with blue just let them know spent on this what's not going to take this anymore we're not going to take this lying down we ought we need to basically get student unemployed working middle-class teachers law enforcement everybody had taken place and we need to convey the message an ordinary americans are not going to take this sitting down to the top thirty sitting down alright dustin uh... and if you guys are interested in participating in that rally in washington d_c_ on may fifth but u_s_ uncut dot org in you'll find more information about it dustin thank you so much for joining us i really appreciate it innkeeper eg

History

US Uncut was co-founded in 2011 by Ryan Clayton, Joanne Gifford, and Carl Gibson.[2][3] The US-based organization draws its name, organizing structure, and tactics from UK Uncut, a movement that had begun only four months earlier in London, England.[4][5]

The organization's activities were the subject of a Sundance Film Festival documentary, We're Not Broke, which follows the group's co-founders nonviolent direct actions at corporate storefronts across the country. According to the film's website, "We're Not Broke is the story of how U.S. corporations have been able to hide over a trillion dollars from Uncle Sam, and how seven fed-up Americans from across the country, take their frustration to the streets . . . and vow to make the corporations pay their fair share."[6] The film is available to watch for free on Netflix[7] (U.S.) and Vimeo[8] (International).

The group's first action occurred simultaneously in 50 cities across the United States, mostly at Bank of America branches.[3][4] Bank of America was chosen for its role in the financial crisis and the fact that it paid no income taxes in 2009 or 2010.[9][10] By May 2011, over 100 cities had had Uncut sponsored actions.[11]

In April 2011, in political action to highlight corporate tax avoidance, US Uncut published a news story based on a fake press release that said General Electric was returning its 3.2 billion dollar tax refund to the U.S. Treasury. The hoax was done in collaboration with The Yes Men.[12][13] The Associated Press distributed the story through its web site, before taking it down 35 minutes after publishing it.[14][15]

In addition to its protests directed towards Bank of America, US Uncut has organized protests at Verizon stores,[citation needed] BP stations, FedEx stores,[16] Target stores and British Petroleum.[17]

Criticisms

In August 2016, US Uncut's Facebook page,[18] with 1.5 million followers, was hijacked and began posting articles from an impostor site mockingly named US Uncut.[19] On March 2 or 3, 2017, their site was shut down with the message "Sorry, we had to shut down the site.Thank you for reading our articles all these years." This was a result of a legal settlement between Carl Gibson, Mark Provost and co-founder Ryan Clayton.[20][21]

US Uncut's web site has been criticized as being a partisan liberal site.[22] The organization's website has been accused of deceiving readers and of publishing inaccurate news stories.[23][12][24]
