Transcription

Students at two local schools are set to benefit from closer ties to the University of Canberra under an innovative scheme launched last week. The Department of Education and Training and the University of Canberra began the discussion about a shared vision for the relationship between this college, Kaleen High and the University. And as a result, a unique partnership was formed offering a range of new options and pathways for students. As part of the partnership Lake Ginninderra Secondary College has been renamed the University of Canberra Secondary College, Lake Ginninderra and Kaleen High School, the University of Canberra High School, Kaleen. Students celebrated the change with a song. This is a special day in the life of the University of Canberra. This is indeed 'the moment' we celebrate not only the change of names of the two schools, but also the beginning of a deeper partnership that underlies that name change. The partnership offers a range of opportunities for students, teachers and researchers. It's a great opportunity it gives students more facilities to use and a higher-level education. It makes entrance to university and other training beyond year 12 easier and increases teacher access to professional development and research. The links we're strengthening will help student teachers in our faculty of education really get to know two schools in detail, and other students at UC will also have plenty to learn and to offer by spending time here. I'm hoping that this partnership will do more than just push the boundaries; We're really keen to make sure that education is led from the ACT. Sandy Rose, University of Canberra.

History

Lake Ginninderra College was established in 1987, with John Cope being appointed as founding Principal.[2][3] University of Canberra Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra is located near its partner facilities the University of Canberra and the Australian Institute of Sport.
