The UB postcode area, also known as the Southall postcode area,[2] is a group of eleven postcode districts in England, within six post towns. These cover parts of western and north-western Greater London, plus a very small part of Buckinghamshire. The letters in the postcodes are the phonemic abbreviation of Uxbridge.

The main sorting office is in Greenford (Green Park Way) and the area served includes much of the London Borough of Hillingdon and the western part of the London Borough of Ealing, while the western part of UB9 covers a small part of Buckinghamshire, the southern part of UB2 covers a very small part of the London Borough of Hounslow, and a very small part of UB5 lies within the London Borough of Harrow.

Correletion to traditional terms

The same map as above as against the same area in all its traditional terms, newer traditional being in green.
The same map as above as against the same area in all its traditional terms, newer traditional being in green.

The very traditional identities in grey, inset, are those in the Victoria County History series. Main newer traditional identities (districts) are in green in the same map. Essentially the non-correlations in postcode districts versus traditions are in these seven ways:

  • The northeastern 12 of Uxbridge, UB9 is traditionally Harefield (which extends into Rickmansworth post town (i.e. WD3) slightly)
  • The eastern 13 of Uxbridge, UB10 is traditionally Ickenham (which extends into Ruislip post town (i.e. HA4) slightly)
  • The eastern 14 of Greenford, UB6 is traditionally Perivale
  • The southern district of Southall, UB2 is traditionally Norwood Green
  • The southwestern 12 of Hayes, UB3 is traditionally Harlington and about a quarter of diminutive Cranford
  • The northern 15 of Harmondsworth and southern same amount of Hillingdon fall into West Drayton, UB7.
  • All of Uxbridge, UB8 is in very obsolete terms a complex mixture of Cowley and Hillingdon.
