TheatreWorks (Singapore)

TheatreWorks is an independent, non-profit international performance company based in Singapore. It is an Institute of Public Character that aims to develop and nurture professional art skills. As per their website, "It promotes and produces Singapore writing, interdisciplinary performances and collaborations with international artists."[1] It is currently led by Artistic Director, Ong Keng Sen.[2]

History

TheatreWorks was established in 1985 by Lim Siauw Chong, Lim Kay Tong[3] and Justin Hill.

The company's premises was moved to Fort Canning in 1990.[4]

On 15 September 2005, TheatreWorks moved to a heritage building that was once a rice warehouse located at 72-13, Mohamed Sultan Road.[4] The building cost $2.9 million, of which $2.8 million which was sponsored by the National Arts Council and the reminder from TheatreWorks itself.[4]

Since establishment, the company has staged over 200 productions and 2,500 performances in Singapore and overseas.

After 1999, TheatreWorks hosts and manages the Arts Network Asia (ANA).[5]
