Transcription

The universe is a big puzzle. Where does it come from? Where is it going? Are we alone in our universe? and what is the meaning of life, if any, in a cosmological perspective? The answer... is not 42. [Whispering] I've double checked. Instead, if we want to solve the universal puzzle, as with a jigsaw puzzle, we must start by finding the edges. These are the beginning, the end of the universe, which are in between the two trends of increase in disorder, and increase in order. Since the 19th century, physicists have predicted that the increase in entropy means that the universe is ultimately doomed to disappear in a heat death. In my research, I focus on the other edge, the increase of complexity in cosmic evolution, from atoms, stars, planets, to life, intelligence, civilization, and what may come after. The purpose of my book is to picture a new worldview, where intelligent life is involved in cosmic evolution. And to my own surprise, this perspective leads me to a new hypothesis: namely, that signs of advanced extraterrestrial civilizations are already present in our data. Are you curious to know more? If so, you can watch my PhD defense video, or you can read my book, from beginning... to end!
