(bell ringing) When the bell rang on August 5, Katrina was officially over for us. When the kids walked into the building, to see the look on their faces, it was just amazing, you wanted to tear up. That’s how exciting it was. To see them coming in the door, and with everything they’ve been through, to be back in their school is really amazing so we’re really proud of that. It’s an amazing facility. Of course, funding from FEMA and MEMA made it possible for us to build this facility. $42 million construction of the facility… and we think it’s state of the art. One of the finest that you’ll find anywhere, and we’re really proud of that. Of course, you know, this will be doubling as a shelter, when it’s time in the event of an emergency. They’ll be… this area behind me of course will be the shelter area. (teacher lecturing) Currently, it’s occupied as classrooms during the day, as normal use of the classroom during the day, but because this area is hardened in to meet specifications for a hurricane; it would be used a shelter for the community. I think it’s great for the community to have a safe place to come. We were always using our previous schools as a shelter. It was nice and we were happy to open it to the community as safe place but it wasn’t to the level that this would be as far as real protection. So, I think for our citizens of this community it’s a very nice place to have and it’s reassuring to have somewhere to go when emergencies arise.
