Chronology
PredecessorSony α6600

The Sony α6700 (model ILCE-6700) is a mirrorless APS-C format digital camera produced by Sony, succeeding the a6600. Unveiled on July 12, 2023,[1] it introduces a new 26MP Exmor sensor,[2] Real-time Recognition AF[3] and 4K video at 120 frames per second, incorporating 759 phase detection autofocus points. Driven by the BIONZ XR image processor, it provides an ISO range from 50 to 102,400. Additionally, the α6700 is capable of capturing images at a maximum rate of 11 frames per second, maintaining continuous autofocus and exposure tracking.[4]

Features

The camera features several advancements from its predecessor the Sony α6600, also incorporating some features from the higher-end Sony α7 IV.

  • 26 MP (approx. effective) APS-C Exmor-R CMOS sensor[2]
  • 759 Phase Detection AF Points[2]
  • Real-time Continuous Eye-AF Tracking for Human, Animal & Bird
  • Flip[2] 3-inch LCD vari-angle touchscreen with 1.03 million dots[4]
  • 2.3-million dot resolution EVF[3]
  • 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization with a 5.5 stops of shake reduction[2]
  • 11 fps continuous shooting [4]
  • 4K 120p recording with 6K oversampling[5]
  • Battery life with NP-FZ100 is rated at approx. 570 images using LCD screen and approx. 550 images using EVF[2]
  • Native ISO range is 100 - 32,000 and extended ISO range is 50–102,400[2]
  • 10-bit HEIF[2] image format
  • Weather-sealed magnesium alloy body
  • Multi Interface (Mi Shoe) Hot shoe

Video formats

The camera is using in-house developed AVC Video Format called XAVC. The format is a compressed format achieving balanced quality and file size. Recording in colour depth of 10-bits and 4:2:2 chroma subsampling is possible with the XAVC codec.

  • All Intra-frame system that compresses each frame individually to achieve the best quality.
  • When recording 4K movies in the XAVC HS format it is optional to be using a HEVC codec (H.265) which has higher compression efficiency.
    • The camera can record movies with higher image quality than XAVC S movies but with the same data volume.
  • The camera can record in "Long GOP" codec (H.264) compression which compresses multiple frames to reduce file size.

Lens compatibility

Sony E-mount APS-C (E) lenses are compatible with the α6700.[2]
