Skelton, North Yorkshire

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skelton is a small hamlet located in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England.[1] It is located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park near the larger village of Marske in Swaledale.[2] Along with the other Skelton's in Yorkshire, the name derives from Old English and means The farm on a shelf of land.[3][4]

During the 17th century, the moors around Skelton were the location of several lead mines.[5]
