The Samsung Galaxy A12 is an Android smartphone manufactured by Samsung Electronics. This phone was announced in November 2020 as a successor to the Samsung Galaxy A11.[2]

The Samsung Galaxy A12 was not available in the United States until April 2021.[3][4] The Galaxy A12 that was made available in the U.S. had 3 GB RAM and a 16 MP main camera, rather than the 48 MP unit.

In Europe, Samsung launched the Galaxy A12 at €179 for the 3 GB RAM + 32 GB variant, and €199 for the 6 GB RAM + 128 GB variant.[5]

Samsung launched the Galaxy A12 in India on February 16, 2021, at a price of Rs.12,999 for the 4 GB RAM + 64 GB internal storage model, while the 4 GB RAM + 128 GB internal storage variant was priced at Rs.13,999. On August 12, 2021, Samsung relaunched the phone with the Exynos 850 SoC in India.[6][7] This variant could be purchased with 4 GB RAM + 64 GB internal storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB internal storage configurations. The 4 GB model cost Rs. 13.999 and 6 GB model cost Rs. 16.499, respectively.

In North America, Samsung launched the Galaxy A12 April of 2021 for the price of $180USD for the 4GB + 64GB internal storage model, while in other countries like Canada selling the 3GB + 32GB for $220CAD. It also comes with the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset

On August 9, 2021, a new variant of the phone called the Samsung Galaxy A12 Nacho was announced. This variant of the phone is powered by Samsung's in-house Exynos 850[8] SoC with octa-core CPU and 8nm process instead of the previous MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, in addition to the operating system being updated to Android version 11.[9][10] Aside from these differences, both the Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A12 Nacho have very similar specifications, where the Nacho variant supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wi-Fi protocols, whilst the prior model supported only 2.4Ghz.[11]

In 2021, the Galaxy A12 was the best-selling and best-shipped smartphone worldwide, shipping approximately 51.8 million units. It was the only smartphone to cross 50 million sales of a single model within a year, surpassing the Samsung Galaxy A21s and Samsung Galaxy A31, as well as the Apple iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series, along with the Redmi 9 and Redmi 9A.[12]

The Galaxy A12 has a 6.5 in (170 mm) IPS LCD display with 720 × 1600 resolution with 60 Hertz Refresh rate.[13]

Storage & Memory

The phone has 4 different RAM and internal storage configurations: 32 GB/3 GB RAM, 64 GB/4 GB RAM, 128 GB/4 GB RAM, and 128 GB/6 GB RAM [14]

Processor

The phone is powered by Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 System-on-Chip (SoC), which is built on a 12 nanometer (nm) process technology. This SoC features an octa-core CPU that is divided into two clusters- a high-performance cluster and a power-efficient cluster. The high-performance cluster comprises four Cortex-A53 cores that are clocked at 2.3GHz, while the power-efficient cluster also consists of four Cortex-A53 cores that are clocked at 1.8GHz.

The Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 SoC also comes with an integrated IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU that operates at 680MHz.[14]

Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy A12 features 4 rear-facing cameras housed in a black rounded square with a separate LED flash. The main camera is a 48 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture, 26mm focal length and autofocus. The ultrawide camera is an 8 MP unit with f/2.2 aperture and 123° field of view (FoV). Both the macro camera (for close-up shots) and the depth sensor (for background blur) are 2 MP sensors with f/2.4 aperture. The front-facing camera has a 8 MP resolution. Video can be recorded at up to 1080p at 30fps on the main, ultrawide and selfie cameras.[14]

The phone has a 5000mAh Li-Po non-removable battery that can be fast charged (15 W) through the USB-C port situated between the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the single loudspeaker. The fingerprint sensor is integrated to the power button.[14][15]

Software

The smartphone shipped with One UI Core 2.5 over Android 10, preloaded with many standard Google apps. An official update to One UI Core 4 and Android 12 was made available during August-September 2022. The Nacho version was released with One UI Core 3.1 and Android 11.They both come with Samsung Knox, aided by McAfee's virus protection.[16]
