Sadhu Ram Chand Murmu University, also known as Jhargram University, is a public state university in Jhargram, Jhargram district, West Bengal. The university was established in 2018 as Jhargram University under The Jhargram University Act, 2017.[1] In 2021, it was renamed as Sadhu Ram Chand Murmu University.[2] This university offers courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

History

Jhargram University was founded in 2018 under "The Jhargram University Act, 2017," with its campus at Jitusol inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee on August 9, 2018. In 2021, the university's name was changed to Sadhu Ram Chand Murmu University of Jhargram (SRCMUJ) in tribute to Santali poet Sadhu Ramchand Murmu through "The Jhargram University (Amendment) Act, 2021". This university became active with the appointment of the first vice-chancellor, Amiya Kumar Panda, in 2021.[3]
