Russell Township is one of thirteen townships in Putnam County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 823 and it contained 361 housing units.[3]

Russell Township was established in 1828.[4]

According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 35.58 square miles (92.2 km2), of which 35.53 square miles (92.0 km2) (or 99.86%) is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km2) (or 0.14%) is water.[3]
