Beginning with the late 1990s, several music charts have been introduced in Romania. The Romanian Top 100 was founded in 1996,[2] and acted as the country's national singles chart until its cancellation in February 2012.[1] It was alternately compiled by Body M Production A-V, Nielsen and Media Forest, who measured the airplay of songs on radio stations throughout Romania.[3][4][5] To the point of its discontinuation, the Romanian Top 100 reached notable notoriety, involving airplay statistics from up to 120 Romanian radio stations and being published in Billboard's Music & Media magazine.[2][6][7] Since then, the chart was replaced by the Airplay 100 as Romania's national chart as of late February 2012, using radio and television airplay statistics provided by Media Forest.[8][9] Since 2009, Media Forest also list the top ten most broadcast Romanian and foreign songs on radio and television channels on their website, known as the Romanian Radio Airplay and TV Airplay charts.[10]
