Polina (singer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Polina, also known as Polina Gudieva or Contessa, is an American-based, Russian-born singer and songwriter.[1] She co-wrote and is featured on the single "Book of Love" with Felix Jaehn which held the number one position on the German Airplay chart for four weeks.[2]

Early years

Polina was born in Moscow and showed a keen interest in music from a young age. Being the daughter of the Russian pop singer Anak, Polina grew up in an environment of singing and performing. She learned to play the classical piano and soon started writing, producing, and singing her songs. During the electronic music boom in Europe in the 1990s, Polina found her true passion and has since combined her pop sensibilities with her love for electronic and dance music.

Career

Polina started her career in New York City where she met Sandy Vee and the production team at Stargate. Together, they co-wrote Sean Kingston's 2011 hit song "Party All Night (Sleep All Day)", which became a platinum record and peaked at number seven on the UK Pop Singles chart and number one on the UK R&B Singles chart. The song was even featured on the soundtrack of "The Inbetweeners Movie", one of the most successful comedy films in British cinema history.

After signing a publishing deal with Ultra, Polina has collaborated with some of the biggest names in electronic dance music, including Steve Aoki, Tiësto, Kaskade, Laidback Luke, Moguai, and Todd Terry. She also co-wrote the single "Faded" for Kain Rivers with Digital Farm Animals.

Polina is also known for her own solo work, including the hits "Fade to Love" and "Breathe". Her collaborations have been nominated for awards, such as Felix Cartal's "Don't Turn On the Lights" which was up for Best Dance Recording at the 2013 JUNO Awards. She has even appeared in the music video for Steve Aoki's "Come With Me" and was personally invited by Steve Aoki to join him on his Deadmeat tour in 2012. Polina has also performed at some of the biggest music festivals in the world, such as Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and Electric Zoo.

In addition to her successful music career, Polina has also been featured as a vocalist on Eminem's Grammy award-winning album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, on the track "Legacy" alongside Rihanna, Skylar Grey, and Kendrick Lamar.
