Paul Chantler was a British radio broadcaster, author, and broadcasting executive, who held senior programming roles at Chiltern Radio, Essex Radio and Wireless Group and worked for the BBC.[1]
Career
Chantler held senior programming roles at Chiltern Radio, Essex Radio, Wireless Group and Premier Christian Radio.[2] He also worked at the BBC, Southern Sound, Invicta, and started his broadcasting career at Hospital Radio Tunbridge Wells in 1971. Chantler co-wrote a popular Industry ‘go-to’ guides to libel and defamation, Essential Media Law, alongside Paul Hollins. Chantler was the first voice heard on BBC Radio Wiltshire[3] , known then as BBC Wiltshire Sound.[4]
Death
Chantler died on 31 March 2024, aged 64, in Eastbourne General Hospital, having been admitted with breathing difficulties. He had recently been diagnosed with liver cancer. His death was first reported by RadioToday. Tributes were shared across social media from listeners, friends and colleagues. Essential Media Law book co-author Paul Hollins, wrote: “Deeply saddened to share the news that my friend Paul Chantler has passed away after a short illness. Rest easy Paul and thanks for everything.” [5] [6]
