Novotroitske (Ukrainian: Новотроїцьке) is a rural settlement in Henichesk Raion, Kherson Oblast, southern Ukraine. It hosts the administration of the Novotroitske settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine.[1] It had a population of 10,535 (2022 estimate).[2]

History

Until 18 July, 2020, Novotroitske was the administrative center of Novotroitske Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kherson Oblast to five. The area of Novotroitske Raion was merged into Henichesk Raion.[3][4]

Russo-Ukrainian war

A large column of Russian military vehicles drove through Novotroitske on February 24, 2022, at the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[5]

In March 2022, Ukrainian citizens held a peaceful rally against the Russian army occupation in the settlement.[6]

In 2023, Ukraine’s representative of the Kherson Oblast council, Serhiy Khlan, reported that Ukraine had conducted a missile strike at a village in the district.[7]

Until 26 January 2024, Novotroitske was designated urban-type settlement. On this day, a new law entered into force which abolished this status, and Novotroitske became a rural settlement.[8]
