The "National Anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran" (Persian: سرود ملی جمهوری اسلامی ایران‎, romanizedSorude Melliye Jomhuriye Eslâmiye Irân; pronounced [sʊˌɾuːde melˌlije dʒʊmhuːˌɾije eslɒːˌmije iːˈɾɒn]) is the national hymn of the Islamic Republic of Iran adopted in 1990.[1]

The anthem was composed by Hassan Riyahi and written by Sayed Bagheri. It is the fourth official national anthem used in Iranian history.

History

The national anthem was adopted by Iran in 1990, replacing the previous national anthem used during the time of Ayatollah Khomeini, called Pâyande Bâdâ Irân. It was the second shortest anthem in the world, after Japan's anthem, Kimigayo, with seven stanzas.

Concurrently, this anthem is not recognized by a number of Iranian opposition groups and diaspora who continue to use Ey Iran instead.

English translation

Upwards on the horizon rises the Eastern Sun,
The light in the eyes of the believers in justice,
Bahman is the zenith of our faith.
Your message, O Imam, of independence, freedom, is imprinted on our souls.
O Martyrs! Your clamors echo in the ears of time.
Enduring, continuing, and eternal.
