Murphree Hall is a historic student residence building located in the Murphree Area on the northern edge of the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida.[1] It was designed by architect Rudolph Weaver in the Collegiate Gothic style and completed in 1939.[2] The building was named for Albert A. Murphree, the university's second president, who served from 1909 to 1927.[3] Major renovations, which included adding air conditioning, were completed in 2005, and the hall was rededicated and open for that fall semester.[4]

Murphree Hall is a contributing property in the University of Florida Campus Historic District which was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 20, 1989.[2]

The Murphree Area is one of the most beautiful areas on the University of Florida Campus. The Murphree Area has the oldest buildings on campus and they are kept in pristine condition thanks to the hard work of wonderful housing staff members. The halls are Buckman, Fletcher, Murphree, Sledd, and Thomas. Buckman and Thomas Hall were the original University of Florida Buildings and are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Murphree Area has over five hundred rooms. The Historic buildings in the Murphree Area were later converted into residence halls and therefore, no two rooms in the area are the same. There are two room doubles, traditional double rooms, two room triples, traditional single rooms, traditional triple rooms, three room triples, quad rooms, and three room quads. The many different room types and the beautiful history in the Murphree Area make it one of the most charming areas on the UF campus. All of the bedrooms in Murphree come fully furnished with a bed, desk, chair, and a dresser per resident. Rental rates also include cable television, electricity, water, and internet. Each floor, or section is assigned a Resident Assistant or RA to aid residents in their transition to campus life. The Murphree Area has an amazing and brand new common space with ample lounge and games areas, study sites, laundry facilities, and a beautiful outdoor area for relaxing and having fun with friends. The majority of the population that occupies the Murphree Area consists of upper classmen but there are many first year students living in the area as well. The Returning Gators Program is hosted in the Murphree Area. It is a sophomore learning and living community designed to address the specific needs and interests of second year students at the University of Florida. All residents in the Murphree Area can take advantage of the fun social programming from the Murphree Area Council and Residence Hall Staff and enjoy the true college experience at the University of Florida.
