The Municipality of Trebnje (pronounced [ˈtɾeːbnjɛ] ; Slovene: Občina Trebnje) is a municipality in Slovenia in the traditional region of Lower Carniola. The seat of the municipality is the town of Trebnje.[2]

The municipality was established on 3 October 1994. It was increased in size on 6 August 1998, when the settlements of Kostanjevica and Ravne nad Šentrupertom were transferred to the municipality from the neighboring Municipality of Litija. It was then reduced in size on 13 June 2006 with the formation of the new municipalities of Mokronog-Trebelno and Šentrupert from the municipality's territory.[3] On February 26, 2011, Trebnje was again reduced in size when the Municipality of Mirna was reestablished.[4]

Welcome! I’m standing on a viewing point in the municipality of Sevnica, which is a true treasury of such natural scenes. Municipality with its vastness covers over hundred of settlements and is one of the biggest areas in Slovenia; and by its history one of the richest ones. That Sevnica is a treasury of adventures we are going to show you now. Sevnica’s Treasury of Adventure Ajdovski gradec belongs among the most researched settlements from the time of migration of people. So the locals in the year 1811 found a Roman tombstone and a sarcophagus, later the archeologists made a thorough search and diggings. Today it is possible to find restored remains of foundations of late-Roman or early Christian settlement from 5th and 6th century. At the time of Trubar these places were famous for churches and chapels which adorn almost every hill. If at that time this was a thorny issue, today at seeing this beauty we can’t be sorry. While the human embellished the hills with churches, nature took care that in the beginning May meadows bloom in the blue colors of gentian and bushes flare with yellow flowers of azaleas. The great specialty of these places is definitely the so called Luther cellar, on a castle hillside build, one storey high building with a porch and a small tower. In it the Luther’s doctrine was thought by the writer of the first Slovene bible, Jurij Dalmatin. At first this was an oratory which was changed into a grave chapel with a crypt and where Inocenc Moškon and his wife were supposed to be buried. The essential piece of the Luther,s cellar is a fresco which has been preserved from around the year 1600. By the way of painting it is a rare example of the painting technique in oil tempera on a common painting surface. Thence the liveliness of color shades and artistic effects which are not possible to be achieved by usual fresco technique. If we are looking for something that represents Sevnica it is this absolutely the 900 years old Sevnica Castle. Where did you come from? Lord Baron! Oh, good morning. I caught a cold. She didn’t make tea, tea! Because you are so behaved, my Ciril will take you to the study. Such a study we have here in the castle. Do you know what this is? An abacus. This mighty castle up here I have built so mighty, because here by the river Sava the Turks were passing by. Those who get married in our Castle, are afterwards photographed here in this beautiful hall. It looks as now it is my turn. Well, such a wedding would probably many wished for. But what is also very interesting is that on the hill slope grows 500 vines of Blaufränkisch. Sometimes the Baron himself takes a look at them. On the right bank of Sava Sevnica prides itself with the most beautiful vineyards. In the village Malkovec we even speak about the amphitheatre of vineyards”.. From here also arrive the best makers, the kings of Cvièek. But not only Cvièek, their farm tourism, they are also famous for their homemade salami. From 1962 in Sevnica salamiada” is taking place,a competition, where a special committee judges homemade salamis. The competition with an entertainment program takes place every year on the main square in old part of the city, under the castle, on the 10th of March, the Martyr’s Day. The specialty of farm tourism is, that you can catch” your own food. Sava, the longest Slovene river has in many ways influenced the development of the surrounding settlements. It was a navigable river over which for 500 years the wood was transported by rafts and cut in near and more distant woods of Savinjska valley. Logs connected into rafts were transported all the way to mouth of the Danube near Belgrade. The river Sava brought to the valley of Sevnica a lot of fertile soil. I am walking over the largest orchard in Slovenia. Fruit growing has a rich tradition in these places. It was founded mostly on Sevniška vošèenka”,, the apple which reached all the Europeans courts. They say that once you try it, it becomes irresistible. Bikers, trekkers, and mountain lovers are invited by many paths and tracks. Most of them lead to Lisca, one of the highest vantage points. The mountain meadows, full of blossoms offer relaxing walks, with wonderful view. The brave ones can afford an adventure, flight with a paraglide or a sailing kite. Before mentioned salamiada”,, Sevnica castle summer, Buèarijada, Festival of Electronic Music, Knap’n’fest, ŠentROCKjanž, art workshops, art colonies, all these are the things because of which to Sevnica more and more people are coming. We hope that in the future, you will also be our guests. If you were ever wondering where to go, in Sevnica’s Treasury of Adventure!

Settlements

In addition to the municipal seat of Trebnje, the municipality also includes the following settlements:
