Morgen was an American psychedelic rock band formed in Long Island. Their only album, Morgen, was released in 1969, and is considered one of the best heavy American psychedelic rock albums of the 1960s. The first track off of this album, "Welcome To The Void", includes several references to fairy tales and folklore, including Jack Be Nimble and Peter Pan.[1]

Morgen was founded in 1967 by Steve Morgen, Bobby Rizzo, Murray Schiffrin, Mike Ratti, and Barry Stock. Originally, the band was named "Morgen’s Dreame Spectrum" but was later changed to simply "Morgen".

Cultural Impact

Although Morgen remains a nestled band, it popularity increased in the last 10 years with the widespreaded use of internet.[2] Their only studio album has been reissued multiples times but still remain a rare artefact that is prized by avid record collectionners. For example, an original first press 1969 record can be sold for 1251$ on Discogs[3]

Style

According to Beverly Patterson from psychedelicbabymag.com “Morgen” carries the kind of urgency and excitement executed by bands like Love (band), The Doors and The Rolling Stones. Composed of all original material, the songs, which are dipped in acid-riddled acrylics and animated lyrics, really pull the listener in. Snarling with conviction and purpose, the vocals are utterly intense, where the guitar playing, sizzling with killer diller dynamics, exposes an allegiance to Jimi Hendrix.[4]
